Brunei Darussalam Celebrates National Day on September 15th
Brunei Darussalam National Day, locally known as Hari Kebangsaan Brunei Darussalam, is celebrated each year on September 15th. This important occasion marks Brunei’s independence and the establishment of the modern, sovereign nation we know today.
Historically, Brunei was once a powerful empire that encompassed much of Borneo and extended into parts of the Philippines. However, in the 19th century, Brunei came under British influence and became a British protectorate, shaping its contemporary political landscape.
After years of careful negotiation and preparation, Brunei Darussalam achieved independence from British rule on January 1, 1984. This milestone paved the way for National Day to become an official annual celebration, honoring Brunei’s sovereignty and rich cultural legacy.
