The word Odwira means “purification” in the Akan language. The festival represents the cleansing and renewal of the community’s spirit, body, and land. The Grand Parade: Akuapem Adae Kese
The festival’s highlight is the Akuapem Adae Kese, or Grand Parade of Chiefs, held on the second Sunday of the celebrations. Chiefs adorned with gold ornaments and jewels sit beneath ornate canopies, pouring libations to honor the ancestors and seek blessings for the community.
