15th October – Mother’s Day
The 15th of October marks the celebration of Mother’s Day, a special day dedicated to honoring mothers and motherhood. A day to show appreciation, love, and gratitude for everything that our mothers have done and continue to do for us. While Mother’s Day is celebrated on various dates around the world, the 15th of October is recognized as the International Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate the strong, loving and selfless women in our lives.
It is a time to reflect upon the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for their children.
Mothers play a pivotal role in shaping their children’s lives and their influence is immeasurable.
On this day, we express our gratitude and give thanks to our mothers for their endless love, guidance, and support.
The origins of Mother’s Day can be traced back to ancient Greek and Roman times, where festivals were held in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.
However, the modern concept of Mother’s Day as we know it today, was first celebrated in the United States in the early 20th century.
In 1908, Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in West Virginia and lobbied for a national holiday to honor all mothers.
Her efforts paid off and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made the official declaration of the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
Over the years, the holiday has gained popularity and is celebrated in various countries around the world.
In most countries, Mother’s Day is celebrated in the month of May, while others follow traditions and customs specific to their culture.
For example, in the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, while in Thailand it is celebrated on August 12th, the birthday of Queen Sirikit, who is considered the mother figure of the country.
On Mother’s Day, children often give gifts, flowers, and cards to their mothers to express their love and appreciation.
It is also a day for families to spend quality time together and pamper their mothers with special treats, such as a day at the spa or a home-cooked meal.
However, the true essence of Mother’s Day lies in the heartfelt sentiments and acts of love that are shared between a mother and her child.
No matter how you choose to celebrate this day, the most important thing is to make your mother feel special and cherished.
So, on this Mother’s Day, let us take a moment to reflect, appreciate and celebrate the amazing women in our lives, who are our biggest supporters, role models, and superheroes.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers out there!
