Remembering Paul’s Shipwreck on 10 February
The story of Paul’s shipwreck is one that is filled with both tragedy and triumph. On 10 February, we commemorate the day that Paul, a prisoner being transported to Rome, faced a harrowing and life-changing experience. But not only did Paul survive the shipwreck, but he also used the opportunity to spread the word of God.
It was on 10 February, two years after his arrest in Jerusalem and a year after his imprisonment in Caesarea, that Paul was put aboard a ship bound for Italy. Along with other prisoners and Roman soldiers, Paul set sail towards his destination. But little did they know, their journey would soon turn into a fight for survival.
As the ship approached the island of Crete, a violent storm called Euraquilo, also known as a northeaster, hit the vessel. The crew struggled to keep the ship afloat, desperately throwing cargo overboard to lighten the load. Everyone on board, including Paul, was in danger of perishing.
But Paul continued to have faith in God. Despite the storm raging around him, he remained calm and encouraged his fellow passengers and crew to have hope and faith in the Lord. And by the grace of God, on the fourteenth night of the storm, the ship finally ran aground on the island of Malta.
This was not the end of Paul’s journey, however. While on Malta, Paul healed the father of the island’s chief official, further proving his miraculous connection with God. This act led to the conversion of many people on the island, solidifying Paul’s status as a devoted servant of God.
Paul’s shipwreck on 10 February serves as a reminder of the power of faith and the unwavering love and protection of God. Despite facing numerous obstacles and dangers, Paul was able to find strength in his faith and use his experiences to spread the word of the Lord.
