Khmer New Year, known as Chaul Chnam Thmey in Khmer, is one of Cambodia’s most significant and joyful holidays. Traditionally, Khmer New Year spans three days, typically observed between April 13 and 16, according to the lunar calendar. For example, in 2021, the festivities took place from April 14 to 16.
Deeply rooted in Cambodia’s rich heritage, the festival originated from the ancient Hindu calendar and was later adapted by the Buddhist community, blending spiritual and cultural traditions.
