National Heroes Day – November 28

Every year on November 28, we celebrate National Heroes Day in honor of the brave men and women who have made significant contributions to our nation. This special day is a time for us to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of these remarkable individuals who have shaped our country’s history and identity. From political leaders and soldiers to activists and ordinary citizens, our national heroes have left an indelible mark on our society and continue to inspire us to this day.

The History of National Heroes Day

National Heroes Day has its origins in the year 1937 when then-president Manuel L. Quezon declared November 30 as the official day to honor the country’s national heroes. This date coincides with the birthday of one of our greatest national heroes, Andres Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan and leader of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule. However, in 1989, then-president Corazon Aquino signed Proclamation No. 374, moving the celebration of National Heroes Day to the fourth Monday of August. This change was later reversed by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2017, setting the date for National Heroes Day back to November 30.
