Celebrate Army Day on February 21: Honoring the Courage and Bravery of our Men and Women in Uniform
Army Day is observed on February 21 every year, marking the day when India’s first Chief of Army Staff took office in 1949. This day is dedicated to the soldiers of the Indian Army who protect our borders with their lives and make immense sacrifices in the line of duty. On Army Day, we honor and pay homage to these brave men and women in uniform who selflessly serve our country.
The Indian Army is the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces and is responsible for the defense of our nation. It is one of the most formidable and respected armies in the world, known for its valiant efforts in wars, internal conflicts, and peacekeeping missions. The Indian Army symbolizes courage, dedication, and sacrifice, and on Army Day, the entire nation takes pride in its soldiers and celebrates their achievements.
This year, Army Day 2021 marks the 73rd anniversary of the Indian Army. The theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘Indian Army: A symbol of Unity and National Integration’. On this day, a wreath-laying ceremony is conducted at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in New Delhi to pay tributes to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
The celebrations also include a parade, showcasing the various weapons and equipment used by the Indian Army as well as the traditional military hardware. The President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, awards gallantry and service medals to the soldiers for their exceptional acts of bravery and distinguished service.
