NRM Liberation Day – January 26 : Celebrating Freedom and Growth
Today is a day for celebration in Uganda, as NRM Liberation Day is officially commemorated on January 26 every year. This day marks the anniversary of the National Resistance Movement’s victory in overthrowing the oppressive and corrupt government of Idi Amin, which had ruled the country since 1971. It is a time to reflect on the progress that has been made since then and to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for the liberation of Uganda.
On January 26, 1986, Ugandans and the world witnessed a historic moment as the National Resistance Army captured Kampala, thus putting an end to decades of tyranny and misrule.
The battle for liberation was not an easy one, and it was fought on various fronts – militarily, politically, socially, and economically.
The NRM, under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni, was determined to bring about real change and build a better future for Uganda.
Over the years, NRM Liberation Day has been celebrated with great pride and joy, as it symbolizes the beginning of a new era of hope and development for the country.
This year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrations may be different, but the spirit of freedom and unity remains strong.
Despite the challenges, Uganda has made significant strides since the NRM took over power.
The government has implemented policies to improve the economy, provide education and healthcare for all, and promote peace and stability in the country.
Uganda has become a regional leader in various sectors, including agriculture, tourism, and technology, and has attracted foreign investment.
The country has also made great strides towards achieving gender equality and empowering women to take an active role in nation-building.
One of the most impressive achievements of the NRM government has been the restoration of peace and security in the country.
After decades of civil war and unrest, Uganda is now one of the most stable countries in the region, with a strong and capable national army.
The NRM government has also made significant efforts to promote and preserve Ugandan culture and heritage.
Through programs such as NRM Cultural Heritage Week, the government has highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the country’s diverse cultural traditions and practices.
This year, as we commemorate 35 years of NRM Liberation Day, let us also remember the sacrifices made by our veterans for the freedom and growth of our nation.
Let us also take this opportunity to recommit ourselves to the values of unity, hard work, and patriotism that have been the pillars of Uganda’s progress.
As we look towards the future, we are confident that Uganda will continue to thrive under the leadership of the NRM, and that together, we can build a prosperous and peaceful nation for generations to come.
