The History of Zambia Army Day

Zambia Army Day traces its origins to 1975, when it was first celebrated as National Defence Forces Day. In 1979, the holiday was renamed to better reflect its focus on the army. August 5 was chosen to commemorate the formation of the Northern Rhodesia Regiment in 1939, the forerunner of the modern Zambia Army.
