8,9-May Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives During the Second World War:

Proclamation Of the Day:

By resolution 59/26 of 22 November 2004, the UN General Assembly declared 8–9 May as a time of remembrance and reconciliation. While recognizing that Member States may have individual days of victory, liberation and commemoration, invited all Member States, organizations of the United Nations System, non-governmental organizations and individuals to observe annually either one or both of these days in an appropriate manner to pay tribute to all victims of the Second World War.

Reason For Creation of UN:

The Assembly focused on that this memorable occasion set up the conditions for the formation of the United Nations, intended to save succeeding ages from the scourge of war, and called upon the Member States of the United Nations to join their endeavors in managing new difficulties and dangers, with the United Nations assuming a focal part, and to bend over backward to resolve all debates by quiet means in similarity with the Charter of the United Nations and in such a way that worldwide harmony and security are not imperiled.

Background:

On 2 March 2010, by goal 64/257, the General Assembly welcomed all Member States, associations of the United Nations framework, non-administrative associations and people to notice 8-9 May properly to honor all survivors of the Second World War. An exceptionally serious gathering of the General Assembly in remembrance of all casualties of the conflict was held in the second seven-day stretch of May 2010, denoting the sixty-fifth commemoration of the finish of the Second World War.

During the remembrance, the Secretary-General called the Second World War “one of the most epic battles for opportunity and freedom ever,” adding that “its expense was past computation, inconceivable: 40 million civilians dead; 20 million soldiers, almost 50% of those in the Soviet Union alone.”

In goal 69/267, the General Assembly reviewed that the Second World War “carried untold distress to humanity, especially in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Pacific and different regions of the planet.” It underlined “the advancement made since the finish of the Second World War in defeating its heritage and advancing compromise, worldwide and local collaboration and majority rule esteems, basic liberties and crucial opportunities, specifically through the United Nations, and the foundation of territorial and subregional associations and other suitable structures.”

An extraordinary solemn meeting, marking 70th commemoration of the Second World War, was held on 5 May 2015.
