Background Of the Day:

On 19 June 2015, the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/69/293) proclaimed 19 June of every year the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. On the way to increase attention of the want to put a stop to battle-related sexual violence; to honour the sufferers and survivors of sexual violence round the world and to pay tribute to all the ones who have courageously devoted their lives to and lost their lives in status up for the eradication of those crimes.

The date was selected to commemorate the adoption on 19 June 2008 of Security Council decision 1820 (2008). In which the Council condemned sexual violence as a tactic of warfare and an impediment to peacebuilding.

In response to the upward push in violent extremism, the Security Council adopted resolution S/RES/2331 (2016), the first to deal with the nexus among trafficking, sexual violence, terrorism and transnational prepared crime. By acknowledging sexual violence as a tactic of terrorism, it in addition affirmed that sufferers of trafficking and sexual violence devoted to the aid of terrorist companies should be eligible for legit redress as victims of terrorism.

We cannot allow this already under-reported crime to slip further into the shadows. Perpetrators must be punished. Investment in recovery from the [COVID] pandemic must tackle the root causes of sexual and gender-based violence.
