The date of 5 May was officially established in 2009 by the Community of Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP). An intergovernmental association that has been in a true organization with UNESCO beginning around 2000. And which unites people groups with the Portuguese language as one establishment of their particular personality – to commend the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures. In 2019, the 40th meeting of UNESCO’s General Conference announced 5 May of every year as “World Portuguese Language Day”.
