Understanding Independence Day

Independence Day has always been of special importance to the citizens of India.
rnAs a country, India has been through a lot of hardship throughout its history, and November 3rd marks one of our greatest achievements – Independence Day. It is a day for us to remember the leaders and heroes who fought for our freedom, and to reflect on the sacrifices made to secure our independence.
rnOn November 3rd, 1946 Indian National Congress launched the historic Quit India Movement, which called for the British government to grant India independence. This movement was led by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and other notable leaders of the Indian Independence Movement.
rnAs we celebrate our nation’s independence on November 3rd, we also remember the significant role played by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is a day to honor their bravery and pay our respects to them.
rnIndependence Day is also a time to reflect on our nation’s progress over the years, and the challenges that we still face. It is a day to remember the values upon which our forefathers built this nation, and to recommit ourselves to upholding those values.
rnIndependence Day is celebrated throughout India with great enthusiasm and patriotism. People decorate their homes with the Tricolor – the national flag of India, and many organizing community events, parades, and flag hoisting ceremonies. Schools and colleges hold special assemblies and cultural programs to celebrate this occasion.
rnOn this day, the Prime Minister of India hoists the Tricolor at the Red Fort in Delhi and gives a speech addressing the nation. The speech highlights the progress made by the country, and the government’s plans for the future. In the evening, a grand display of fireworks takes place in various cities across the country, filling the streets with colors and joy.
