Celebrating National Unity Day – October 21st

National Unity Day is a special day celebrated every year on October 21st to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India. This day is observed to promote the importance of unity, peace, and harmony among the people of India. Sardar Patel, one of the founding fathers of modern India, played an instrumental role in uniting the 565 princely states of India into a cohesive nation in 1947. His efforts had a lasting impact on the country and continue to inspire generations.

National Unity Day is also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, with ‘Ekta’ meaning Unity in Hindi.

The day was officially declared as National Unity Day by the Government of India in 2014.

The main aim of the day is to pay tribute to Sardar Patel and his contributions to the country.

It is also a reminder of the importance of national integration and the need for people to stand together as one nation.

National Unity Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism, with various events and activities being organized across the country.

The day begins with a floral tribute to the ‘Statue of Unity’, the tallest statue in the world, which stands at 182 meters and is dedicated to Sardar Patel.

Schools and colleges also hold special assemblies and discussions to educate students about the life and achievements of Sardar Patel.

Seminars and conferences are organized to discuss the importance of national unity and ways to promote it.

People also take part in parades and march pasts, with tricolor flags held high, to showcase the diversity and unity of India.

Social media is filled with messages and posts highlighting the significance of National Unity Day and honoring Sardar Patel.

The day is also used as an opportunity to promote the ideas of peace, harmony, and brotherhood among people of different religions, castes, and cultures.

Sardar Patel once said, ‘A united India of 300 million people can break the chain of poverty, ignorance, superstition, and exploitation and establish democracy, communal harmony, and peace and progress on the high road’. His words continue to guide us towards a better and stronger India.

This year marks the 145th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, and it is a perfect occasion to come together and celebrate the spirit of unity in diversity.

Let us all unite and make Sardar Patel’s vision of a strong, united India a reality. Wishing everyone a very happy National Unity Day!
