Easter – A Moveable Feast Between March and April
Easter is a central Christian holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Celebrated each year on a Sunday between late March and late April, Easter—also known as Resurrection Sunday—marks the culmination of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
According to Christian tradition, Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and rose from the dead the following Sunday, which is celebrated as Easter. This event is the cornerstone of the Christian faith, and many believers honor it by attending special church services and ceremonies.
The date of Easter changes annually because it is determined by the lunar calendar. Traditionally, Easter falls on the first Sunday after the full moon that follows the vernal (spring) equinox. As a result, Easter can occur as early as March 22 or as late as April 25.
