Celebrate Women’s Month: A Remembrance of Women’s Struggle and Achievements
For the month of August we celebrate Women’s Month, a devoted commemoration to the power and courage of women all over the world. Since 1920, women have been rallying together proclaiming equal rights, opportunities, and recognition in all aspects of life. This month, we remember the struggles and achievements of women who have paved the way for future generations – women who have fought for gender equality and women who have broken through the glass ceiling. From the suffragette movement to the feminist revolution, women have raised their voices and made their own mark in history.
Women’s Day itself falls on August 9th, which is heralded as a public holiday in South Africa. This day is a celebration of all of the incredible women in our lives as well as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done in achieving gender equality. It is a day of empowerment, acknowledgement, and inspiration towards a brighter future for all women.
As we look back on the achievements of women, we are reminded of the crucial role they play in society and commemorated for their strengthening voices which have become the driving force of change. From civil rights icons such as Rosa Parks to political leaders like Margaret Thatcher, we have seen fierce and resilient women create an impact in history. We also have high-powered businesswomen like Sheryl Sandberg, Oprah Winfrey and Malala Yousafzai, who continue to be admired for their progress and achievements in various fields.
