Buddha Jayanti – 7th May

Celebrating the Life of Buddha

Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima or Vesak, is one of the most revered Buddhist festivals celebrated worldwide. This auspicious occasion marks the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana (passing away) of Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Buddha. Buddha Jayanti falls on the full moon day of the Vaisakha month in the lunar calendar, typically in April or May. In 2024, this sacred festival will be observed on 7th May.

Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini, in present-day Nepal, around the 6th century BCE. According to tradition, he attained enlightenment at the age of 35 while meditating under the Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, India. After his enlightenment, he dedicated his life to teaching the path to spiritual awakening. He passed away at the age of 80 in Kusinara, India. Buddha Jayanti honors his extraordinary life, timeless teachings, and enduring spiritual legacy.
